| 01.02.2012

FRANCE ARE the favourites to lift the Six Nations trophy according to Ladbrokes.

The World Cup runners-up are the 6/4 favourites however punters have been heavily backing Wales (3/1) since their impressive tournament in New Zealand and should they take home the title and the Grand Slam it will cost the firm a cool six figure sum.

If England (4/1) win the tournament it will trigger a £100,000 payout as Ladbrokes will be refund all losing outright single bets as well as rewarding patriotic English punters.

The new-look England team are odds-on (4/6) in advance of their game against Scotland (5/4). The match also sees Chris Robshaw make his debut as captain and it’s 8/1 he scores a try – 16/1 he receives a yellow or red card.

As Stuart Lancaster has named three uncapped players in the starting XV it’s evens that Dowson, Barritt or Farrell make their debut a day to remember, Farrell is also quoted at 9/4 to score all of England’s points at Murrayfield.

Italy are the favourites for the wooden spoon at 4/7 followed next by Scotland at 5/2. France’s Vincent Clerc edges favouritism at 7/1 for the top tournament try scorer with Chris Ashton earning at 10/1 quote.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “We’ll be cheering tournament favourites France to victory. Patriotic punters in England and Wales have filled their boots and a win for either would be costly.”
