Expect a tight affair as Martinez’s Wigan face Swansea

| 01.03.2012

Roberto Martinez will face his old side Swansea City for the second time this season with Wigan in the unusual position of being favourites.

The Latics are 13/10 to get a much needed victory over a Swansea side who head into the game having lost consecutive league games for the first time this season.

They followed a defeat at home to Norwich with a loss away at Stoke and are now 2/1 to get a win at Wigan.

It’s a big game for both teams, with a win for Wigan potentially lifting them out of the drop zone, while three points for Brendan Rodgers’ men could open up a 12 point gap between them and the relegation places.

With so much riding on the game it promises to be an incredibly tight affair – especially considering their less than impressive goalscoring records.

The Swans have failed to score in seven of their Premier League away games this term – more than any other team – while Wigan have the worst home attack in the division.

Meanwhile, none of the previous four games between these sides has yielded over 2.5 goals, with the last clash between them ending goalless at the Liberty in August.

With Wigan failing to find the net at home five times this season, backing this game to finish with under 2.5 goals scored looks extremely tempting at 8/11.

If you’re feeling adventurous however, then under 1.5 goals shouldn’t be discounted at 12/5.
