Tiger Woods joint favourite for WGC Cadillac after flurry of bets

Tiger Woods’ superb closing 62 on the final day at the Honda Classic last weekend has seen punters lumping on the former World No.1 for this week’s WGC Cadillac Championship.

Woods began the week as second favourite at 7/1 behind Rory McIlroy (6/1) who claimed the World No.1 spot with his victory at the Honda.

However, punters have taken full advantage of those relatively long odds on Woods and Ladbrokes have now made him joint favourite with McIlroy, with a victory for Woods meaning Ladbrokes face a pay out of around £75,000.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Woods’ form is starting to worry us. Punters are firmly back on board the Tiger train and it won’t be long before he’s causing us severe headaches again.”

And there is every reason to think Woods could come through and win this week, making him tempting even at 6/1.

He has won the event six times since its inaugural playing in 1999 and finished tied tenth last year – despite being in the midst of one of the worst runs of his career.

Further down the betting, another player is attracting plenty of money following a brilliant final round at the Honda.

World No.3 Lee Westwood closed with a 63 on Sunday and is an incredibly tempting 14/1 to claim his first win of the season, especially after he’s finished top four in his last two events.

All the focus will be on him on the opening three days though as he’s been put into an appetising three-ball along with McIlroy and Luke Donald who is 20/1 to win the title.

If you like your odds a little longer though, then Justin Rose also performed consistently well at the Honda and the Englishman is 40/1 to win at the TPC Blue Monster.
