Wigan gain major survival boost as pivotal trio back from injury

| 30.03.2012

Wigan’s hopes of securing another seemingly unlikely Premier League survival have received a massive boost with three important first-team players expected to return for their next game with Stoke, which they are 17/10 to win.

Last season it was Charles N’Zogbia who was chiefly responsible for Wigan’s late charge towards Premier League survival, as he scored five goals in their last six games to keep them up on the final day of the campaign.

The current season is not at such a critical stage, but Wigan have shown signs of improvement of late with just one defeat in seven Premier League outings taking them to within one point of safety.

Victor Moses has been instrumental in this turn around, but after getting kicked in the face in the win over Liverpool, there were concerns that he could face weeks on the sidelines.

But the good news for Wigan is that Moses did not fracture any bones in his face in the incident and should be fit to start against Stoke.

Wigan have lost all four games this season when not selecting Moses from the off and so his appearance could prove especially paramount.

Mohamed Diame and Hugo Rodallega are the other duo in line to return at the DW Stadium and this bodes well for Wigan.

Rodallega scored the only goal at Stoke on the final day of last season to keep Wigan in the Premier League.

Wigan have only lost one of their seven fixtures with Stoke since the pair have been in the Premier League together and none of those where they have been at home.

It remains 1/4 that Wigan will go down this season, but a victory over Stoke should be enough to see them escape the bottom three for the time being and they have winnable fixtures at home to Wolves and away to Blackburn still remaining.
