Chelsea v Wigan: efficient Blues to end Latics mini-revival

| 07.04.2012

After progressing past Benfica in the Champions League last night, Chelsea can push forth their pursuit of a top four finish by beating Wigan at 1/4.

Their visitors to Stamford Bridge have markedly improved in recent weeks however, and after going four games unbeaten, and winning their last two, they may fancy their chances of causing an upset at a long 11/1.

It is 9/2 about the draw, and punters who saw Wigan match Chelsea in their 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium earlier in the season could take an interest in these odds.

The goal that the Latics scored in that match was their first in their past four encounters with Chelsea however, and with Wigan failing to find the net in eight of the 13 Premier League meetings of the sides, Chelsea look very appealing at 4/6 to keep a clean sheet, and 5/6 to win to nil.

In contrast, the Blues have smashed 16 goals in their past four games opposing Roberto Martinez’s men, and are 11/5 to keep that average up by notching four or more times in Saturday’s clash.

For those who believe a combination of the above bets could occur, a 4-0 Chelsea win is a 10/1 shot.

You could alternatively back the home side to triumph in a match featuring three or more goals at a decent 8/11.

Chelsea’s preference to get off on the front foot at Stamford Bridge would also seem to point to half markets as a good way to turn a profit on this match, and they can turn what would be an eighth home half-time lead of the season into a full-time win at 8/15.

There are 5/6 odds available on Chelsea scoring in both halves, and as they have notched almost an equal amount in the first and second half of games during the campaign, this looks like a price worth investing in.

Meanwhile, it’s 10/11 for the Blues to win both halves, as they have done in each of their last two outings in all competitions.
