First scorer options galore as Man City meet Man United in title clash

Sir Alex Ferguson has described tonight’s derby as the biggest in his Manchester United tenure, and he will look to talisman Wayne Rooney to make the difference, an 8/1 chance to open the scoring.

Either side is blessed with an abundance of attacking talents, with Rooney the focal point of the visiting outfit, and he will take confidence from his brace at Eastlands in the FA Cup earlier this season.

He notched first on that day too, and the 8/1 price about him tonight is as long as you are ever likely to see the England striker to break the deadlock in a Premier League match.

Rooney has scored 34 times in all competitions this term, and has very real chances of making it 35 with the opener at that very generous price tonight.

What may also attract punters to taking advantage of the odds is Rooney’s cool head from the penalty spot, and as a feisty encounter looks certain, a United spot kick looks very possible tonight.

For hosts City, scrutiny is sure to surround Carlos Tevez, as he looks set to line up against his former employers once again, also attributed an 8/1 price to score first.

Since a return to first team action, Tevez has scored four goals in just three games, and will be fired up to further enhance a scoring record which features two strikes against the Red Devils.

His strike partner Sergio Aguero will win some friends at the same price meanwhile, keen to add to his 29 seasonal strikes in all competitions.

The Argentinian striker has five goals in his last three games, and equally as unerring from 12 yards as Rooney, the penalty specialist may be worth investment.

Amongst even longer priced options, Paul Scholes is 20/1 to hit what would be a fairytale opening strike in the derby, whilst powerful midfielder Yaya Toure is an interesting 14/1 shot for City, as Ladbrokes go top price on all first scorers.
