Goals look possible as inconsistent Stoke meet in-form Arsenal

In what has proved a controversial fixture in the past, Stoke will renew acquaintances with Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, priced 10/3 for a home win.

The controversy of the past came in the aftermath of Aaron Ramsey’s broken leg in this game, leading Arsene Wenger to accuse the Potters of overly physical tactics.

They have since met three times, with Arsenal coming out on top twice, seeing them afforded a 10/11 price to triumph at the weekend.

Wenger’s side were beaten 3-1 on their last visit to the Britannia Stadium though, and accusations that they ‘don’t fancy’ this type of fixture could resurface should they suffer another defeat in Stoke-on-Trent.

Encounters between these teams have typically produced goals in the past, with no goalless draws emanating from eight Premier League clashes.

Both teams have found the net in six of those eight matches too, so the 4/6 odds for both teams to score in this game will appeal to punters.

In terms of recent form, Stoke have somewhat summed up their entire season, in which fatigue has undoubtedly played a part after an extensive Europa League campaign, and a run to the FA Cup quarter-final.

Inconsistency continues to plague Tony Pulis’ team, and a win, a draw, and a loss from their last three outings is a reflection of their 14th place league standing.

Arsenal meanwhile, have produced a much more consistent season after a dreadful start that saw pressure grow on Wenger, and Champions League hopes dwindle.

Now sitting in third place however, a run of just two losses from their past 13 league matches has sparked hope of a title charge for next season, thanks in no small part to the form of PFA Player’s Player of the Year Robin Van Persie.

A more hardened attitude away from home means only two sides have yielded more points on their travels this season, and the Gunners could be worth investment at 10/11 to add to their away haul on Saturday.
