Healthy Wigan form sees their relegation odds lengthen

After being routed to the foot of the table for much of the season, Wigan’s recent revival has seen their price for relegation extend to 11/8 in the Premier League betting odds.

Favourites for the drop a matter of weeks ago, Wolves’ spectacular collapse has coincided with a resurgence for Roberto Martinez’ side, whose 1-0 victory over Manchester United last week was the latest in a string of impressive results.

Bottom club Wolves are now 1/500 shots to be relegated, and Ladbrokes also have little faith in 19th placed Blackburn Rovers, who are 2/7 to go down in the aftermath of five consecutive defeats.

Meanwhile, the Latics travel to the Emirates tonight, set to entertain an Arsenal side in superb form themselves, with just one defeat in their last 11 league games.

That loss did come against relegation strugglers QPR however, and with Wigan’s admirable effort away to Chelsea, and tremendous win over league leaders United, it doesn’t look too far-fetched to suggest that they could get a result tonight.

They still need to travel to Ewood Park for a meeting with fellow strugglers Blackburn in May, and that looks as much of a ‘six-pointer’ as any game in recent Premier League history.

Elsewhere, QPR look to have the toughest fixtures of each of the relegation-threatened sides, with trips to Man City and Chelsea still to come, as well as home ties with Tottenham and Stoke.

As 11/10 shots for relegation, the Rs may be worth a punt.

Bolton look to have a kinder fixture list, but as they still sit in 18th place with games running out fast, some will be inclined to invest in the 5/4 price on them finishing in the bottom three.

One of their remaining games comes at Villa Park, and their hosts on that day could still be dragged into a relegation fight, with Aston Villa 12/1 options to end a miserable season by descending into the second tier.
