Man City v West Brom: City to keep faint title hopes alive

| 11.04.2012

Man City will be looking to their excellent home record to overcome their recent poor run of form as they take on West Brom. Roberto Mancini’s side are 2/7 to extend their unbeaten record at the Etihad and keep their faint title hopes alive.

The Baggies have been superb away from home this season picking up seven wins on the road. Continuing that fine from may prove difficult in Manchester and a price of 12/1 to be the first side to beat City on home soil this season reflects the task facing Roy Hodgson’s side.

This season’s earlier meeting at the Hawthorns saw West Brom defend resolutely to seal a draw and with Sunderland becoming the sole team to take anything from the Etihad, after securing a 3-3 draw in the Citizens’ last home tie, the price on this contest ending all-square is an inviting 4/1.

More specifically, a repeat of the 0-0 scoreline that these sides produced back in December can be backed at 16/1, but with City scoring in every one of their home fixtures in the league this season it is hard to see them drawing a blank.

Sergio Aguero returned from his freak injury in City’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal at the weekend and is the favourite at 5/2 to score first but with Mario Balotelli suspended, Edin Dzeko should lead the line and is at 7/2 to be the man to break the stalemate.

With West Brom now looking safe for another season Hodgson may look to rotate his squad and with Marc-Antoine Fortune having a major impact of late, the ex-Celtic man looks good value at 12/1 to hit the target first.

The Citizens have been level at half-time in over half of their matches this season, so investing in a draw at half-time with the hosts claiming victory by the final whistle looks a smart move at 7/2.
