Brazil star could still make move to Premier League champions
Published:Long linked with a move to Manchester City, central defender Thiago Silva’s insistence he is happy at AC Milan has done little to quell the speculation.
Now 27, the Brazilian has matured into one of the most assured defenders in European football, and his services are coveted by the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as City.
Silva’s improved defensive work, along with a penchant for marauding runs from the back, has attracted the interest of former Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini over the course of last season, and he seems most keen to firm up his interest with a bid.
Mancini was seen in discussions with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani last week, further fuelling conjecture that he is high on the idea of making Silva a City player.
The player’s agent has only added to the idea that he could soon move on from the San Siro too, with an admittance to Calciomercato.com that he would be open to a move should Milan be willing to sell.
“Thiago has a contract with AC Milan. PSG and Barcelona are two great clubs and we would be honoured by their interest, but they have not spoken to me and AC Milan haven’t told me anything.
“The player’s position has been clear for some time – he wants to stay in Milan. If Milan want to sell him, that is a different matter.”
At the peak of his career, Silva is currently valued at around £30million, though such a fee would not prove a stumbling block for City, who have frequently shelled out fees of this nature for the last few years.
Milan’s long-standing interest in Carlos Tevez could play a part in any potential move however, and Mancini may be tempted to use the Argentinian as a makeweight to land one of his chief targets.
