Chelsea v Liverpool: Blues can land silverware under Di Matteo

| 04.05.2012

Chelsea are 13/10 favourites to win in normal time on Saturday, as they bid for a fourth FA Cup triumph in six years against Liverpool.

It will be the Reds’ third visit to Wembley this season, and after emerging victorious in 90 minutes on one of those occasions, they are 21/10 to do so again here.

Liverpool’s other seasonal visit to Wembley saw extra-time commence meanwhile, with the possibility of that happening again attributed an 11/5 price.

The game represents the first major cup final of Chelsea’s season, and the Blues are 4/6 to land the trophy by any means, to boost Roberto Di Matteo’s chances of landing the job permanently.

Meanwhile, Kenny Dalglish’s men have already won this season’s Carling Cup, which they achieved via success on penalties, and they are 5/4 to complete a domestic double.

It is well worth noting that FA Cup finals have tended to be cagey affairs over the past decade, with a single goal occurring in more than half of the last ten finals of the competition.

Chelsea themselves have been involved in several of these finals, and punters may wish to invest in a repeat of their last final success, which came by a 1-0 scoreline, at 7/1.

Alternatively, the Blues could see some support to keep a clean sheet against a Liverpool side that has mustered only 43 league goals this term, at 2/1.

Perhaps an even more attractive proposition is for Chelsea to win to nil, as they have in three of their five cup matches under Di Matteo, at a bigger 3/1.

Didier Drogba unsurprisingly heads the first scorer betting, but is still a monster 7/1 price, and this should be snapped as the Ivorian has bagged in every competitive match he has played at Wembley.

Luis Suarez will be Liverpool’s main threat meanwhile, and the Uruguayan will be popular amongst punters at 7/1 for the opener, after notching in the semi-final at Wembley.
