5:00 Royal Ascot: Tales Of Grimm can make expected bold bid

Published:

Lots of talented types help make up the field for the Tercentenary Stakes, but the unexposed Tales Of Grimm perhaps looks the classiest prospect of them all and can be backed at 5/1 to secure victory.

Tales Of Grimm was a game winner on his only start as a two-year-old when repelling the challenge of Firdaws by a head and the runner-up has since gone on to finish among the places in Group One company.

This bodes well for Ryan Moore’s mount, while he finished an encouraging third on his seasonal reappearance after making up a lot of late ground after being held up too far off the pace.

The step up in distance to 1m2f should also suit the horse and given he has only has two career races, he looks open to the most improvement.

Wrotham Heath is the current favourite at 9/2 and given the jockey booking of Tom Queally, he looks the first string of trainer Sir Henry Cecil over Stipulate, although the latter has run to a higher level to date.

The fact he currently holds an entry in the Irish Derby goes to show how highly rated he is.

However, Wrotham Heath seemingly did not stay when attempting 1m4f in a previous outing and the early pace was slow when he triumphed over today’s distance of 1m2f last time.

This pace is liable to be a big quicker, which will stretch his stamina, as will the overnight rain.

The interesting runner in the field appears to be Energizer, who has the previous form in the bag, while many of the other leading fancies have reputations to live up to.

Energizer is 8/1 and finished a creditable fourth in the German 2,000 Guineas last time, although it is hard to truly know how strong this form is.
