Baddeley and Harrington lead the top alternate bets for US Open

With over 120 players in the field for the US Open, finding the winner is clearly a bit of a lottery, but some of the alternate markets provide a far easier opportunity to potentially make some money.

There are a host of player specials relating to which golfer will finish the highest on the leaderboard from their country or area and this may prove the best place to find some value.

Finding the top American looks a big ask with Tiger Woods looking back in some kind of form and the likes of Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk all arriving at The Olympic Club with high hopes.

The top English player market is similarly tough to separate with Luke Donald and Lee Westwood always major contenders, Justin Rose expected to go well at the Californian course and Ian Poulter an outside challenger with his shot-making credentials.

Therefore, we have targeted some of the lesser nations, with fewer players qualifying for the major.

Aaron Baddeley top Australian @ 11/2

Jason Day finished second in two majors in 2011, but heads to San Francisco having missed the cut in two of this last three events, while Adam Scott has only broken 70 in one of his ten rounds since the Masters.

Baddeley finished ninth in his latest start at the Memorial and has developed the patience to challenge in a major.

Padraig Harrington top Irish @ 4/1

Rory McIlroy’s problems are well documented having missed three straight cuts, while Graeme McDowell’s recent form is not much better.

Harrington’s US Open record is not great, but he did finish in a share of eighth at the Masters and inside the top 15 on his last two PGA Tour starts.

Elsewhere, Anders Hansen has made the cut in eight of his last nine PGA Tour events and looks a good bet at 7/4 to be the top Dane, while Louis Oosthuizen’s calm demeanour and steady game can land him top South African honours at 3/1.
