Brit Hamilton favourite to complete consecutive Grand Prix wins

| 20.06.2012

In what is expected to be the last renewal of the European Grand Prix at the Circuito Urbano Valencia, Lewis Hamilton is favoured at 11/4 to triumph.

Hamilton claimed his first win of the current season in Canada the weekend before last, and with that victory ascended to the top of the Formula One standings.

A possible deterrent for punters though, could be the fact that Hamilton has never previously won round this track, and would in fact be the first British driver to do so since Johnny Herbert in 1999, should he achieve victory.

More encouraging though, is manufacturers’ McLaren having four European Grand Prix wins to their name.

That fact too, could lead some punters to invest in Hamilton’s McLaren team-mate, and fellow Brit Jenson Button, who is a big 14/1 to win the race.

Button is currently eighth in the F1 standings, and the man second behind Hamilton in those overall rankings comes joint-second in the betting on Friday, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso a 7/2 shot.

Alonso has enjoyed previous success at this circuit, winning around it on two occasions, most recently in 2007.

Interestingly though, he hasn’t landed success in the race for Ferrari as of yet, despite the manufacturers being the most successful in this Grand Prix, with six victories.

Sebastian Vettel shares second-favouritism with Alonso meanwhile, and his 7/2 price comes as he stalks Hamilton on the leaderboard, perched three points behind him with his Red Bull.

Vettel has won the past two renewals of this race as he went on to claim back-to-back Formula One championships, and he will be well backed to complete a hat-trick this week.

Nico Rosberg comes next at 12/1 meanwhile, as he looks to close the gap between the leading F1 triplet for Mercedes, but it looks as though the three market leaders in this race are set to dominate the rankings this season too.
