Rooney backed for Euro 2012 and SPOTY honours

| 20.06.2012

WAYNE ROONEY’S odds of winning awards this season have been slashed by Ladbrokes.

The bookies have cut him to 7/2 favourite to win the England Fans player of the year award while the firm also report a surge of money for him to win SPOTY in anticipation of his goals taking England all the way this summer. He’s now 33/1 from 50/1 to be crowned at the end of year bash.

The striker is just 11/4 to score all of England’s remaining goals in the tournament while it’s 25/1 he bags the winner in the final. His next goal is 9/1 to come with his head, 10/11 with either foot and it’s 5/6 he doesn’t score again.

Following further goal-line technology controversies last night the odds of the referee’s aid being in place for the 2014 World Cup are now just 1/10. It’s 5/2 it’s rushed through for the start of the 2012/13 Premier League season.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Punters were quick to reinvest their Rooney winnings. He’s been backed to win all sorts of awards in anticipation of him carrying England to glory this summer.”

He added: “We’ve virtually closed the book as regards goal-line technology for the next World Cup.”
