Chelsea’s FA Cup record makes multiple trophies a tempting punt

| 09.07.2012

In recent seasons, Chelsea have been absolutely peerless in the FA Cup.

They have won four of the last six renewals and that fantastic record should be taken into account when looking at the special Chelsea bets available with Ladbrokes.

The Blues are 40/1 to repeat last season’s success and claim a double of the FA Cup and Champions League but, with no team retaining the Champions League in its current format, that looks less than likely.

However, with Chelsea’s brilliant cup record, backing them to do the domestic cup double and win the FA Cup and League Cup next term at a pretty decent 33/1 looks well worth a cheeky punt.

New boss Roberto Di Matteo has recently stated how every player in his squad will be involved at some point during the season and he will be keen to emulate Chelsea’s most successful boss of recent times, Jose Mourinho, by winning the League Cup in his first full season in charge.

Chelsea’s cause won’t be helped by Didier Drogba’s decision to move to China (the Ivorian is the only player to score in four FA Cup finals and hit a goal in all of his eight cup appearances at Wembley), but they still have plenty of players capable of performing.

The form of Fernando Torres will be crucial for their trophy hopes though. He has struggled since joining the Blues for £50m 18 months ago but, with three goals in the European Championships, there is plenty to suggest he can finally come good under Di Matteo.

Backing the Blues for a domestic cup double may be something of a long-odds punt, but there is plenty to suggest they could upset the 33/1 price.
