Tottenham Hotspur resigned to losing Modric to Real Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric is on the verge of leaving the north London club for Spanish champions Real Madrid.

Rumours have been circulating for over a year about the future of the Croatian midfielder but, with Andre Villas-Boas admitting he faces a tough task to persuade him to stay, it looks as though he’s finally on his way for a fee of around £30million.

According to the Daily Mail, there are just a few ‘minor’ details like whether Madrid will pay £3million or £5million in add-ons, but the deal is essentially done.

It’s a huge blow to Villas-Boas who was only last week saying he wants his new side to be challenging for the league rather than just a Champions League spot.

Spurs are now out to 20/1 to win the Premier League and are currently 19/10 – the same as Liverpool – to finish in the top four.

Meanwhile, Spurs are also on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with current No.1 Brad Friedel now 41-years-old.

They had been after France and Lyon stopper Hugo Lloris but have allegedly pulled out of that deal.

The north London side now look set to go after Inter Milan keeper Julio Cesar after the Brazilian was told he won’t be the first choice for Inter next season.

Finally, the Daily Mirror is reporting that one player who definitely won’t be at White Hart Lane last term is French sensation M’Baye Niang.

Both Spurs and Arsenal were after the 17-year-old striker, but Manchester City have allegedly stepped in and are prepared to offer Caen around £6million for the player.
