Steve McClaren’s FC Twente among Europa League picks

| 22.08.2012

With the first leg of the Europa League play-offs kicking off, we have picked four away sides that could produce returns of nearly 12/1.

Steve McClaren’s FC Twente are priced at a tempting 11/8 to achieve victory on their trip to face Bursaspor.

The 2009/10 Eredivisie champions have made a good start to their domestic season, currently lying top of the Dutch pile with two wins from two.

Twente dispatched FK Mladá Boleslav easily in the third qualifying round of the Europe League, completing back-to-back 2-0 wins to go through.

Another in-form favourite help make up our accumulator, with Serie A heavyweights Inter backed at 4/6 to triumph in Belgium.

The Nerazzurri have not qualified for the Champions League for the first time in over a decade, but new coach Andrea Stramaccioni will be aiming for a successful Europe League campaign in his first full season in charge.

Having gone unbeaten in pre-season, Inter made light work of their away leg in the last round, defeating Hadjuk Split 3-0 in Croatia.

They lost the return home tie 2-0, but made it through to the play-off round and will be looking to emulate their travelling success this time against Vaslui.

In France, Marseille have made an 100 per cent start to their Ligue 1 term, picking up two clean sheets in the process.

And L’OM look good value to triumph away in Moldova when they take on Sheriff Tiraspol with a price of 4/6.

The 2004 UEFA Cup runners-up have left Spanish right-back César Azpilicueta out of their squad for the away trip, ahead of his projected switch to Chelsea.

However, in Benoît Cheyrou and André-Pierre Gignac the southern French side have the firepower necessary to bring back three points from Eastern Europe.

Lastly we have included CSKA Moscow in the four-fold accumulator, who will make the trip to Sweden to take on AIK in Stockholm.

2005’s winners CSKA have not had the greatest start to their term in the Russian League, but have just completed back-to-back domestic victories.

And at 4/5, the Russian capital club are well priced to achieve an away victory in European competition.

Euro 2012 viewers will recognise the side’s two most influential attackers, Russian wizard Alan Dzagoev and Swedish star Rasmus Elm.
