Team GB v Canada: Powell’s girls to keep winning run going

| 03.08.2012

Given their respective results in the group stages of the women’s football tournament, 5/6 has to be considered a good price for Team GB retaining their 100 per cent start and beating Canada inside 90 minutes to reach the semi finals.

Team GB will be full of confidence after winning all three of their group games, including a 1-0 success over Brazil.

Meanwhile, Canada only reached the quarter finals through gaining the most points from all of the teams finishing third in their respective groups, thanks mainly to a 3-0 victory over a weak-looking South Africa side.

They did not set light to the World Cup last year either, when they lost all three of their group encounters to make an early exit.

However, there is a strong possibility that Canada will breach a Team GB defence that has kept clean sheets in all of their Olympic games thus far.

Canada did score in all of their group games and it was Melissa Tancredi that was responsible for four of their six goals.

It is 4/7 that Canada score over 0.5 goals against Team GB, with Tancredi 7/1 to open the scoring.

Team GB have had their own goal threat from the unlikely source of left-back Steph Houghton, who scored in all three of their group games, twice with the opening goal.

Houghton is 10/1 to score first and she will be a danger again given that she takes free-kicks and goes forward for corners.

Canada did concede first in the two games in the groups in which both teams scored and so it certainly seems logical that Team GB will strike first.

In terms of value, attacking midfielder Kim Little stands out at 9/1.
