Tottenham eye new signings as Modric’s Real deal stalls

| 01.08.2012

Tottenham Hotspur’s busy summer looks likely to continue over the next few weeks with rumours about the north London club continuing to circulate.

Spurs are currently on tour in America but their transfer activity continues to be the centre of attention, with talkSPORT believing they are about to make a bid for Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

The Brazilian has announced his impending departure from the Italian side, saying: “They have been seven beautiful and successful years, but, in a few days, my adventure in the Inter shirt will end.

“I would like to thank all of you fans for the support you have given me and I hope you have a lot more success to enjoy.”

Spurs are desperately in need of a new keeper, with 41-year-old Brad Friedel surely entering the last year of his career and the32-year-old Cesar would be an encouraging signing for Andre Villas-Boas.

Meanwhile, there could be more good news for the Portuguese, with Real Madrid apparently considering giving up on signing Luka Modric.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Spanish champions are losing patience with Spurs who are refusing to budge on their £40million valuation of the player.

Jose Mourinho now looks set to turn his attentions to Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder who previously played for Real.

Finally, there are now rumours that Spurs could be about to launch a late bid for out of favour Liverpool striker, Andy Carroll.

There’s no doubt that Spurs need to get some extra firepower in if they are to match last season’s top four finish but the Carroll story is rather hard to believe – even if they did put in a bid for the striker, it’s unlikely Liverpool would sell him to a fellow top four rival.
