Ireland v West Indies: Big-hitter Gayle a great price for 50

West Indies and Ireland both go into this match knowing a win will see them progress from the group.

An Irish win, however, will go down as something of a huge upset as the Windies have been priced out of backing at 1/10.

But, with their next adversaries having lost to the likes of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, as well as 56 per cent of their games in t20 format, Ireland should not be entirely overlooked at 6/1.

A half-ton for t20 specialist Chris Gayle in the Windies’ Duckworth/Lewis loss to Australia, however, doesn’t bode well for Ireland. That score has seen his run line set at 30.5 and, at 5/6, it’s well worth getting involved with.

He’s also a 6/4 shot to record his second score of 50 or upwards in the tournament here, which is a very attractive proposition given the way he was hitting the ball against the Aussies – four sixes at a strike rate of 163.64.

Bowling was a big issue for Ireland in their thrashing at the hands of Australia, taking just two wickets after losing seven themselves.

This could have played a part in the lofty price available for George Dockerll to pick up more wickets than West Indian spinner, Sunil Narine.

Ladbrokes have the Irishman priced up at 7/2 to outscore Narine and, in his 18 t20 internationals, Dockerll has picked up 27 wickets. His adversary, on the other hand, has managed a little over one wicket per game with a far inferior strike rate.

This points to the Irishman, who took one of the two Aussie wickets, being the most potent with the ball in this match-up and could see punters in for a windfall through the juicy price on offer.
