Poland v England: Three Lions to enhance bogey team reputation

Published:

England’s triumph over San Marino last week could, and perhaps should, have come by a more comfortable scoreline, and they will face a tougher test when meeting Poland in Warsaw.

However, it is a test they should be expected to pass, with the Three Lions 1/1 favourites to follow up their 5-0 success last time out by conquering their hosts here.

Poland haven’t bested England in 39 years, and find themselves as 10/3 hopes to end that run by claiming three World Cup qualifying points in this match.

But given the recent head-to-head results emanating from encounters between these two nations, a draw looks the very best the Poles can hope for.

That outcome is available at 2/1, but even that looks unlikely, with just one stalemate occurring in the past seven meetings of the pair.

What may prove a better option for punters is to study correct score markets, considering England have won each of their past two games opposing Poland via a 2-1 scoreline.

It is 8/1 that Roy Hodgson’s side are victorious by that score here, and that may well be worth some attention.

Also noteworthy is the fact that both teams have scored in three of the last four times they have played each other, with England emerging successful each time.

Therefore, rather than investing in the 5/6 regarding both outfits finding the net, punters should back them to do so in an away win, which is a generous 7/2 chance.

And betting on the amount of goals Hodgson’s men will notch could prove profitable too, with the Three Lions scoring twice or three times in four of their last six away games.

6/4 is the price attributed to two or three England goals here, and that looks highly appealing.

A bet on the source of those goals could pay dividends meanwhile, with Wayne Rooney 9/2 favourite to open the scoring after firing a brace last week.

His Manchester United teammate Danny Welbeck scored twice in the same game though, and may offer value as the deadlock breaker at 6/1.

And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be popular at a bigger price after scoring his first international goal last week.

The electric Arsenal midfielder is 12/1 to make it two in two with the opener in this clash.
