Suarez offers good value for Golden Boot after hat-trick

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez produced a masterclass of a performance against Norwich to earn manager Brendan Rodger his first three points of the season.

Suarez scored three times within an hour to bring his tally for the campaign to five league strikes, and lower his odds for the golden boot to 7/1.

Despite the presence of last term’s top scorer Robin Van Persie lurking ominously with an equal five strikes, his odds of 11/4 are quite short.

And with Wayne Rooney back to fitness for Man United, there are other outlets for goals in the Red Devils side.

However, Suarez has scored more than half of Liverpool’s nine league goals this season and looks set to be the key man in their hunt for Champions League football.

Other longer shot options made their mark this weekend, with Newcastle’s in-form frontman Demba Ba proving his worth with two goals during their draw with Reading.

The second half of last season saw Ba struggle to find the net, with strike partner Papiss Cisse taking centre stage.

However, the former West Ham forward is now the sole leader of the top scorer chart with six goals, and looks a good punt to bag the golden boot at 12/1.

Sunderland raised a few eyebrows when they forked out around £14m to bring Steven Fletcher to the Stadium of Light from Wolves.

However, the deal is beginning to look like shrewd business by Martin O’Neill, with the Scot scoring five times in just four games.

In fact, Fletcher is the only player to have scored for Sunderland in the league this month, and at 25/1 could be a worthy long shot to be top scorer.

Everton’s Croatian marksman Nikica Jelavić has made a slow start to his Premier League season after turning out for his country at Euro 2012 over the summer.

However, he netted twice against Southampton to bring his total to three, and with the Toffees looking like a strong unit this campaign he could be a handy outside bet for the golden boot.

Odds of 20/1 mean that the ex-Rangers striker has work to do to offer value for punters, but he has the goalscoring pedigree to do just that.
