Anzi v Liverpool: Over 2.5 goals a banker in Russia

| 08.11.2012

Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Anzi when the sides met a fortnight ago means they make the long-haul trip to Dagestan occupying top-spot in Group A.

A second win over Guus Hiddink’s men in as many attempts will leave the Reds very well-placed to ensure their participation in the Europa League post-Christmas, though their massive odds of 7/2 suggest they won’t get the job done.

Anzi were poor at Anfield when many expected better of them and, for this reason, it’d be worth side-stepping their 4/5 price to win this one; the draw at 5/2 is much better value.

The odds-on favouritism of the Russian Premier League side is born out of the fact that the best result anyone has managed to get out of a trip to the Dynamo Stadium was Zenit’s 1-1 draw. The 11 other visitors have all left empty-handed.

Although their efforts ultimately proved futile, five of the past six away teams have managed to net at least once, meaning the hosts aren’t as impregnable as their formidable home record would have you believe.

Back both teams to score in this one at 5/6 and with Brendan Rodgers’ side bagging five on their last excursion on the continent they’ll be feeling confident going into this one. The 15/2 on offer that the Premier League outfit claim the spoils with both keepers beaten should be considered as a strong outside bet.

Over 2.5 goals is probably the pick of the best bets bunch in this one at 11/10. Five of Anzi’s last six at home have yielded as many, alongside each of their last three contested in Russia. The same can be said of five of Liverpool’s last seven on the road and have only failed to find the net once in their last 12 in all competitions.
