Huddersfield a great price to make the Championship play-offs

Huddersfield’s win at Barnsley was their fourth in seven matches and it propelled them up to sixth in the Championship table.

Of all the promoted clubs, the Terriers were the least fancied to thrive in England’s second tier, yet they’re having a much better time of it than Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday and can be backed at 4/1 to make the play-offs.

There are numerous reasons as to why this is an excellent price, perhaps the strongest being the firepower boasted in their ranks.

They have shown no signs of a hangover since the sale of Jordan Rhodes and reinvested a fraction of the hefty transfer fee they received for him on the temporary acquisitions of James Vaughan and Jermaine Beckford.

Rhodes, for all his potential, remains unproven and, although he is sure to do well at Blackburn, Huddersfield have copped two players with both Premier League experience and established goalscoring records at this level.

It’s fair to say that Vaughan’s fitness issues will prevent him playing a lot of the time and Beckford hasn’t been the same player since he left Leeds two years ago, but Huddersfield have got to where they are without either of them really hitting their peak.

If Simon Grayson can get both of them out on the field for an extended run of matches, the goals are sure to flow and, if they do, they’re only going to improve on their already commendable effort.

In addition to this potentially potent attack, they have a solid and dependable back-four that has effortlessly made the transition from League One to Championship football.

Five of their eight league wins this term have come without conceding a goal and only five teams have conceded fewer goals on their own patch than the Terriers.

Grayson himself has demonstrated that he has the credentials to succeed at this level. Without spending any money, he narrowly missed out on a play-off spot with Leeds in 2010/11 after getting them promoted from League One before being ludicrously sacked the following season with the Elland Road club well in the mix again.

Since his move across west Yorkshire he has cobbled together a team more than capable of sustaining a push for a place in the play-offs at the end of the season.

Their price to finish between third and sixth in the Championship is a very enticing one and, of all the current markets available for the division, this is the bet to put your money on.
