King of Stats: all of the numbers ahead of the 2012 Breeders’ Cup
Published:The Breeders’ Cup is back with Europe hoping to perform better than their disappointing two victories across the two-days of action last year.
Excelebration is bidding to help this effort with a success in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, while below are some other statistics that may help provide some winners.
7 – The horse to start from stall 7 has finished in the first three in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in each of the last four years. Cape Bastone will begin from stall 7 this time and is a fine each-way price at 14/1.
11 – On the last five occasions that the Breeders’ Cup has been run at Santa Anita, 11 of the 19 races to have taken place on turf have been won by European entrants. St Nicholas Abbey is one horse hoping to extend this sequence in the Breeders’ Cup Turf and can be backed at 3/1.
5 – All five previous winners of the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic at Santa Anita were previous course winners. Only two entrants this year have triumphed before at the track, with Love And Pride looking like the most likely victor of the duo at 6/1.
9 – The favourite has an amazing record in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, winning nine of the ten renewals in the last decade. Executiveprivilege is almost assured to go off favourite this time and is currently available at 6/4.
1 – In the last decade, the only horse to have attempted the double of the Jerome Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Sprint was successful. This bodes well for The Lumber Guy this year who has completed part one of the double. It is 5/1 that The Lumber Guy also wins the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
4- All four fillies to have attempted to win the Breeders’ Cup Turf in the last 10 years have finished unplaced and three of these were sent off at a starting price of 6/1 or shorter. This suggests that it is worth opposing Shareta, who is currently priced at 4/1.
2 – Both three-year-old winners of the Breeders’ Cup Fillies and Mares’ Turf since 2002 had previously finished in the first three in the Epsom Oaks. The Fugue took third at Epsom and is 2/1 to win the Fillies and Mares’ Turf.
18 – Trainer D. Wayne Lukas has saddled more Breeders’ Cup winners than anybody else with his 18 successes. He has another four runners this year with Hamazing Destiny an interesting outsider in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at 25/1.
