Nedbank Golf Challenge: Kaymer the man to beat going in to the final day

Martin Kaymer takes a one shot lead into the final round of play at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.

The German carded a round three score of 70 to move to -5 for the tournament, and remains the favourite for victory at 7/4.

Hero of Europe’s Ryder Cup success in America this year after holeing the winning putt, Kaymer will be hoping for a perfect ending to a mixed 2012.

The second favourite to lift the trophy at the Gary Player Country Club is South African Louis Oosthuizen, who at 2/1 also has the benefit of playing in his home country.

The duo tee off tomorrow as a two-ball – with their match likely to dictate who wins – but with Oosthuizen priced at 4/5, Kaymer 5/4 and the tie a long 8/1 it looks set to be close.

It will certainly be a tight fourth round in general, as there are significant threats across the field, which for this competition stands at 12 men.

Open winner Oosthuizen is just a shot ahead of his compatriot Charl Schwartzel, who is on -3 and could prove dangerous if he gets a run going.

Schwartzel picked his way through the pack to win the Green Jacket at the Masters last year, and has kicked on as a golfer in the near 18 months since that grand triumph. His price for the tournament is 9/2.

Lee Westwood and Bill Haas share fourth spot with both players on -2, although Westwood edges Haas with Ladbrokes pricing the Englishman at 11/2.

30-year-old Haas is a few notches further back to win at 10/1, but should be avoided given the greater experience of his rivals.

Another intriguing two-ball promising entertainment is Westwood and Schwartzel, with the Ryder Cup champion just shading the Johannesburg-born swinger at 5/6.

Schwartzel is priced at 6/5 to beat Westwood, while the draw is an unlikely 8/1.

Outside from these players, only Scot Paul Lawrie is likely to challenge for victory, as he is the only other under par at -1.

The 43-year-old has enjoyed three tour wins in just under two years, having gone nearly a decade without a win.

The 1999 Open champion is a distant 20/1 for victory, but he can’t be discounted yet.

The rest of the field probably can be, as Ladbrokes are only offering a price on Peter Hanson at 125/1 from the remaining players.

But at the moment the man in possession is Kaymer, who will be chased all the way by the rest of pack in contention, and Westwood appears the neat pick from the bunch.
