African Cup of Nations: South Africa to qualify as winners

Published:

The final African Cup of Nations Group A games take place this evening and it looks like being a good day’s work for hosts South Africa.

While they won’t have things all their own way against Morocco, they should have more than enough to ensure the home fans have something to cheer for a few days yet…

South Africa v Morocco

After opening up with a less than inspiring goalless draw against Cape Verde Islands, South Africa found some decent form in a pretty comfortable 2-0 victory over Angola in their last game.

Morocco are a resilient side though and their opening couple of draws in the tournament has extended their unbeaten run to five games.

South Africa are the 13/10 favourites to win the match but, with a draw enough to guarantee them progression and three of Morocco’s last five games finishing level, backing the draw at 9/4 looks the most tempting of match punts.

Cape Verde Islands v Angola

The odds suggest this clash will be even tighter than the other Group A match-up, with both teams heading into the game at 17/10.

However, the Cape Verde Islands have just one point from their opening two African Cup of Nations games and, even more worryingly, haven’t found the net once.

Their lack of goals should be of concern to punters looking to back them and, with Angola keeping five clean sheets in their last six games, they will have their work cut out bagging in this clash.

Backing Angola to win at 17/10 looks to be the smart bet for this clash.
