Australian Open acca: Back Ferrer, Berdych, Djokovic and Almagro
Published:Novak Djokovic is in action on Day Seven of the Australian Open, as he and the other players left in the Men’s Singles draw try to book their places in the quarter-finals.
The current champion is defending his crown in Melbourne, and faces a tricky tie against Stanislas Wawrinka.
Elsewhere David Ferrer takes on Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych meets Kevin Anderson and Nicolas Almagro clashes against Janko Tipsarevic.
David Ferrer to beat Kei Nishikori @ 1/5
Eternal nearly man David Ferrer will feel he may never get a better chance to win a grand slam than currently, with Rafa Nadal’s injury giving his fellow Spaniard fourth seed and a kinder draw.
Ferrer will be wary of facing Nishikori though, having lost twice to him in the past – at the US Open and the Olympics.
But the Valencia born right-hander is also a good bet to at least make the quarter-finals, and should go even further this time.
Nicolas Almagro to beat Janko Tipsarevic @ 8/11
The closest pairing of all four Men’s Singles games on Day Seven is the Serbian Tisparevic against Spaniard Almagro.
And Almagro has the better head-to-head record, having won both of his two meetings against his upcoming opponent.
This one is a tough call, but Almagro just shades it due to his previous victories over Tipsarevic.
Tomas Berdych to beat Kevin Anderson
Berdych has never gone further than the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, but the 27-year-old will be looking to break that record this season.
He must negotiate his way past Anderson first, but that shouldn’t prove too problematic for the Czech Republic star.
Novak Djokovic to beat Stanislas Wawrinka @ 1/33
The reigning champ hasn’t got an easy Fourth Round game against the talented Wawrinka, but he is just so hard to beat and has a fantastic Australian Open record.
Djokovic has won the tournament three years out of the last four, and it’s fair to say Melbourne Park is one of his favourite places to play tennis.
It would be no surprise to see the Djoker lift the trophy again, although Andy Murray and Roger Federer are posing respectable challenges.
