Leeds v Tottenham: Spurs pace to be the difference

Published:

Andre Villas-Boas showed his commitment to the FA Cup when naming a full-strength team for the third round home win over Coventry and assuming that he does the same at Leeds, 4/6 is a worthy price for another Tottenham victory.

There is a little bit of turmoil at Leeds at present, with morale low among certain members of the squad, including leading striker Luciano Becchio.

Premier League interest is said to be rife for the top scorer and as things stand, Leeds are unwilling to improve upon their current contract offer.

This is unlikely to stop Becchio starting against Spurs and he is a tempting option in the first goalscorer market at 7/1.

In Leeds’ 20 home games this season, they have broken the deadlock on a hefty 15 occasions, including when hosting Chelsea in the Capital One Cup.

That goal was scored by Becchio and in total he has been responsible for nine of Leeds’ opening goals at Elland Road.

Punters wanting to take less of a risk can get 7/4 on any Leeds player being first on the scoresheet.

Much of the game will hinge on how much a relatively pedestrian Leeds defence can contain the outright pace out wide of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.

The pair are the deadliest wing combination in the Premier League and if breaking at speed, they could wreak havoc.

This could make 17/10 a decent bet that Tottenham triumph even when giving up a one-goal handicap.

Another factor in Tottenham’s favour is that Leeds have been knocked out of the FA Cup by north London opposition in each of the last three seasons, which started with a replay against Spurs in 2010.

Another draw this time can be backed at 11/4, with Leeds 4/1 to pick up the win that will see them move into the fifth round.
