Reasons for West Brom scoring more after half time against Aston Villa
Published:Aston Villa’s general deterioration in the second half of matches is only one reason why West Brom have to be backed at 5/4 to score more after the interval than before it in the upcoming Midlands derby.
No team has let in more than Villa’s 42 in the Premier League this season and it is in the second 45 minutes where they have largely capitulated.
Paul Lambert has watched his team concede a shocking 30 second-half goals, which is by far the worst in the top flight.
Meanwhile, West Brom are also more prolific after the break, scoring 18 times in second halves, compared to just 13 prior to half time.
Furthermore, in the nine home league games that West Brom have scored in this season, they have netted more in the second period on five occasions.
The third big reason for this bet is that West Brom have typically been a bigger goal threat against Villa in the second half.
The pair have clashed 13 times in the Premier League and the Baggies have only managed four goals in the first half of matches.
This is in contrast to double this number after a half-time team talk.
In four of the last six meetings, the bet of more West Brom goals in the second half would have been successful, including in the 1-1 draw earlier this season at Villa Park when Shane Long gave them the lead on 51 minutes.
However, as bad as Villa have been defensively this season, it may be foolish to believe that Steve Clarke’s men will fill their boots in front of goal.
They have only scored more than one goal twice against Villa in the Premier League and it is 10/11 that the Baggies grab less than two here.
Alternatively, Villa are 11/10 to keep a first-half clean sheet.
