Arsenal sound out French full back to replace Sagna

| 02.02.2013

Sochaux’s French full back Sebastien Corchia is attracting the attention of a host of Premier League clubs after an impressive campaign in Ligue 1.

Interest from Tottenham and Manchester United was already well-documented, but reports have emerged that Arsenal have also joined the queue competing for his signature.

The 22-year-old right back, who has been capped 26 times at under-21 level, recently bagged his first goal for Sochaux since a 2011 switch from Le Mans.

He’s made 62 appearances for the mid-table outfit since, proving an invaluable member of their squad; Sochaux have not won a game without him in the team this season.

With Bacary Sagna expected to depart the Emirates in the summer, Arsene Wenger is sounding out potential replacements, with Carl Jenkinson deemed not quite ready to make the step up to first team regular level just yet.

As well as competition from at home, however, the Gunners would also have to fend off a host of continental giants if they were to snare Corchia. The likes of Lyon and Juventus are also believed to be in the running for the full back, as are the mighty Bayern Munich.

The player himself has stated he would be open to a big move, stating he will sit down and address his options in the summer, citing England or Germany as his two preferred destinations.

With game time likely to be an issue at the likes of Spurs, United or Bayern – who all boast proven international talents in their right back slots – a move to Arsenal has to hold favour for the Clairefontaine graduate. Much will hinge, however, on the north Londoners qualifying for next season’s Champions League, which they’re currently priced at 10/11 to do.
