Everton v Aston Villa: Toffees shoo-in against hapless opponents
Published:Aston Villa’s freefall towards the Championship is all but certain to continue against in-form Everton, whose win over West Brom last time out was their sixth in nine games.
They’re as short as 2/5 to sink their west Midlands rivals at Goodison Park; this is the same price that Arsenal are to beat Stoke at home which typifies the spectacular fall from grace the Villans have suffered since Martin O’Neill walked out of the club.
In both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons these two finished fifth and sixth respectively and, while the Toffees are on course to achieve something similar to that this term, Villa will be ecstatic to finish 16th.
Only Chelsea have bettered David Moyes’ men on their own patch this season and if Villa become the second team to do it, the handful of people who back it will feel entitled to a heftier rate of pay than 13/2.
A better bet in terms of reward, as well as chance of copping, is the final score to be 2-1 to the Toffees. This three-goal split has favoured Everton for five of these six aforementioned wins and, at 15/2, should be the correct score punt of choice here.
Despite Villa’s sudden implosion, they look a good bet to at least bag a goal on Merseyside. They notched three times at Anfield earlier in the campaign and Everton, despite having one of the best home records in the division, have kept just two league clean sheets this term. With both teams to score paying out at 11/10 here, this should at least be included as part of an accumulator if nothing else.
Recent meetings between these two tell us that more than the anticipated three goals will be scored when these two sides collide. In eight of the previous 11 meetings there have been at least over 3.5 goals scored and those who fancy this pattern to be reciprocated can get paid out at steady rate of 2/1.
