Goals look certain in Champions League round of 16

| 19.02.2013

Champions League action resumes this week, with four intriguing clashes providing a number of betting opportunities for punters.

And we expect goals aplenty in the earliest of the fixtures, as Arsenal entertain Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium, and Porto welcome Malaga to the Estadio do Dragao.

Between them, the four sides scored 47 times in their six group games, whilst 71 goals emanated from those fixtures.

Also, Bayern and Malaga registered in each of their Champions League group matches, whilst Arsenal and Porto failed to find the net in only one game apiece.

As such, the standout bet across the two games would look to be for both teams to score, which is an 8/13 call in Arsenal v Bayern, and available at 11/10 in Porto’s match.

Combined as a double, punters would be paid out at 3.39/1 if all four teams manage to notch.

Each team’s domestic goalscoring record this season also suggests that they are poised to do so, with over 2.5 goals stemming from all but Malaga’s league fixtures so far.

All sides have a positive goal difference, and though punters could be forgiven for approaching an Arsenal side recently eliminated from the FA Cup with caution, several statistics make a compelling case for the Gunners scoring.

Perhaps most telling is the 3.04 average amount of strikes from their 26 Premier League games so far this term, whilst the Emirates has seen more league goals than any other English ground this season.

Of the 51 goals scored in 13 matches at the North London ground, Arsenal have 33, which bodes well against visitors who have scored in all of their away games during this campaign.

Similarly, Porto have scored in all of their 2012/2013 home games, and in Malaga meet a side who average two goals per game on the road so far in this competition.

Therefore, in what should prove an entertaining round of European ties, goals for all concerned look very possible.
