Preston v Blackpool: Seasiders to take spoils in west Lancs derby

| 05.02.2013

Blackpool pulled off an eye catching opening day result when downing Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium and at 6/4 are a great price to continue that form with a League Cup win at near neighbours Preston.

Former Manchester United player and current Blackpool boss Paul Ince has thus far managed to keep promising winger Matt Philips and influential centre-back Craig Cathcart at the club, as well as seemingly convincing son Tom to stay on the Fylde coast for another year.

Ince jr can be backed at 7/1 to double his tally for the season by opening the scoring at Deepdale and he will have his supporters in a competitive market.

Simon Grayson’s side started the season solidly yesterday with a battling scoreless draw at home to League 1 favourites Wolverhampton Wanderers and a win in this early season derby would boost confidence for the campaign ahead.

Former Leeds boss Grayson has achieved promotion from this league with three different clubs – including Blackpool – and expectations of a fourth success will be high, but finite resources may mean a season of consolidation for Preston in a league packed with big clubs like Wolves and well-funded minnows such as Crawley Town.

The Lilywhite’s picked up former Bolton stalwart Kevin Davies on a free transfer during the summer and he leads the first goalscorer market on merit at 6/1 having plundered over 100 league goals in his 20-year career, mostly in the top division.

With former Cardiff and Newcastle striker Michael Chopra also likely to be involved for the Seasiders there should be goals in this fixture and the 18/1 about a repeat of Blackpool’s excellent 3-1 win yesterday represents good value.
