King of Stats: All of the numbers ahead of Europa League last 16

Published:

The King of Stats has been quiet for a while as he has been busy updating his records and swatting up on sporting events. He is making his comeback for the first legs of the Europa League round of 16 encounters.

Three English clubs are still involved and he is optimistic that they will help him turn a profit.

5 – Gareth Bale has opened the scoring and Tottenham have triumphed in five of the club’s last six matches in all competitions, while he has been on target in six of their last seven. Bale is 3/1 to break the deadlock against Inter Milan, with 11/10 the price that he nets at any time in a Spurs success.

7 – Anzi have won all seven of their Europa League home games this season, despite being forced to play at three different grounds. Meanwhile, they have only conceded a total of once across these fixtures. It is 8/13 that Anzi beat Newcastle and 29/20 that they do so without conceding.

6 – All of Fenerbahce’s last six Europa League games have seen exactly one team score, which is also true of four of Plzen’s last five fixtures in the competition. It is 17/20 that both teams fail to score in the Czech Republic.

11 – Benfica are unbeaten in all 11 career meetings when welcoming French opposition and have triumphed in all three on their own patch in the last-16 stage of this competition. Benfica are 8/15 to extend this record with a home win over Bordeaux.

2011 – Federico Macheda has not scored a first-team goal since a penalty for Manchester United in their League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace in November 2011. He is expected to start for Stuttgart against former club Lazio and is 7/1 to open the scoring.

10 – Levante have been quick starters of late in the Europa League, opening their account inside the opening 10 minutes in three of their last four outings in the competition. 13/2 is the price that they score in this time band when hosting Rubin Kazan next.

1 – Basel have conceded no more than once in their last four fixtures in all competitions and in nine of their last 10. Bayern Munich are the only team to have netted more than one in Switzerland. Meanwhile, Zenit have scored exactly one in all of their last three games. Zenit are 8/15 to score 0-1 goals at Basel.

11 – Of all of the clubs left in the Europa League to have been in the competition since the start of the group stages, Steaua Bucharest have conceded the most goals with 11. Chelsea are 13/4 to score over 2.5 goals in Romania.
