Suarez comments to spark interest of new Bayern Munich chief
Published:Whilst Luis Suarez has again proclaimed his happiness to remain a Liverpool player, the striker has admitted he would be forced to consider moving on if any bids from Champions League clubs were forthcoming.
Suarez has enjoyed a terrific campaign on Merseyside this term, hitting 29 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions so far.
And although he leads the Premier League goal charts with 22 strikes, the Reds are in danger of missing out on European qualification altogether next season, with a top-six spot far from guaranteed.
Such a predicament has led Suarez to therefore question his future at the club, despite being lauded as a hero by the Anfield faithful.
He told press in his native Uruguay: “I am very happy at Liverpool but you never know in football.
“If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome.”
Bayern Munich and Juventus lead the chasing pack for his signature, and the Bundesliga leaders appear the most serious contenders to snap up the controversial former Ajax ace.
Pep Guardiola has long admired the 26-year-old, and Suarez’ sharpened instincts in front of goal this season look set to tempt the ex-Barcelona chief to launch a £40m summer bid for the forward.
Suarez is under contract until 2017 at Liverpool, but the opportunity to display his talents on the biggest stage possible, and to link up with a coach as revered as Guardiola, could prove too difficult to resist this close season.
However, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is confident of keeping Suarez, and hopes he can play an integral part in Liverpool’s renewed bid to achieve a Champions League spot next term.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “At this stage, I believe he will stay. This is a club that he loves and he is enjoying working this way. If we can keep supporting him and getting the team moving forward, he seems happy and content.”
