Dan Roebuck’s PGA Tour preview – RBC Heritage

| 18.04.2013

After a dramatic Masters, punters have the age old question of whether to discount Augusta form when it comes to this week’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina. The theory goes anyone involved in the heat of the battle in the first major of the season – win or lose – is surely one to avoid next time out.

If that’s the case, then do you dismiss the chances of Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk and Jason Day? All traded at single-figure odds last week, some even odds-on – and that quartet make up four of the top five in the outright market.

For me, the answer is yes, so the advice is to ignore the claims of the aforementioned Masters challengers.

Billy Horschel failed to make the field at Augusta after he let slip a third-round lead in the Texas Open to lose out to Martin Laird. He finished third at San Antonio, a week after claiming second spot in the Houston Open. He ranked top in putting average for both tournaments and, with play on and around the greens key at Harbour Town, he has the game to drop his PGA Tour maiden tag this week at 40/1.

Charley Hoffman finished alongside Horschel in Texas in third spot and, with his form on the greens clicking into the place for the first time this term, he should be backed to improve on last season’s eighth place at Harbour Town at 66/1.

Lastly, Charles Howell, one of the best scramblers so far this campaign, is another to follow after 10th place in Houston last time out and solid previous efforts at the South Carolina venue. A streaky player, he is long overdue a win at 40/1 after a string of top-ten finishes in 2013.

My three off the tee – Horschel, Hoffman and Howell.
