Mayweather set for routine win en route to UK bout with Khan

Ahead of his return to the ring opposite Robert Guerrero in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather already has his sights set on a massive future fight in the United Kingdom.

‘Money’ is a huge favourite at 1/8 to overcome Mexican-born Guerrero, who is 5/1 to inflict Mayweather’s first ever defeat upon him, and in all honesty, it is very difficult to envisage anything other than a 27th career knockout win for the five-division world champion.

The aforementioned scrap represents Mayweather’s first of a planned six duels within the next 30 months, and the 36-year-old is keen to ensure one of those bouts takes place in England.

Manager Leonard Ellerbe told Bunce’s Boxing Hour: “He cannot wait until we can come over there and give the fans of the UK a big, big fight.

“Floyd has a tremendous fan base in the UK and we’re looking at working on something now where he’s going to come over.”

Those comments will be of interest to Amir Khan, who has his sights set on a money-spinning clash with Mayweather, provided he can reclaim his world title.

‘King’ most recently lost his WBA and IBF light-welterweight championships when suffering defeat to Danny Garcia in July 2012.

But Khan’s success over Julio Diaz in his last outing has seen him move into second-place on the WBC’s list of candidates worthy of a shot at Mayweather’s welterweight strap.

And therefore, if the Boltonian fighter can prevail in his next fight, expected to take place on American soil towards the end of the year, he will move into serious contention for an effort at Mayweather’s championship.

That fact remains in light of Khan never competing at 147lbs, with Mayweather knowledgeable that a bout between the two is likely to prove the most lucrative of his six scheduled upcoming fights.

Although Mayweather would enter any potential fight with Khan enjoying huge favouritism, given the seeming gulf in class that exists between the pair, the bottom line is that the contest would make both athletes much wealthier.
