Liverpool v Everton: poor away form to cost the Toffees

Published:

Liverpool host Everton in this Sunday’s Merseyside derby but all that’s riding on it is local bragging rights and a couple of quid for their final finishing position.

The fifth and final European qualifying spot looks out of reach for both these sides but neither will be easing up with things so close between the bitter rivals.

Sixth-placed Everton are currently five points ahead of Liverpool in seventh – but backing Liverpool to make the gap a lot smaller with a win at 20/21 looks a very decent punt.

Liverpool have been entirely unpredictable this year and their erratic nature was typified by their last result.

After losing Luis Suarez for the remainder of the season because of his nibble on Branislav Ivanovic they went out and, instead of crumbling, battered an admittedly poor Newcastle United 6-0.

Meanwhile, the one thing that’s been predictable about Everton in recent months has been their dreadful form away from Goodison Park.

Despite winning each of their last five games on home soil, they are struggling to pick up points on the road and have won just two of their last 14 away matches – a run that’s seen them fail to win in any of their last six away from home.

With that in mind, backing Brendan Rodgers’ men to win at 20/21 looks the match bet to take on.

Finally, each of the last three meetings between these sides at Anfield has yielded at least three goals and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/5.
