Five seeds to swerve at Wimbledon 2013

Gentlemen
Janko Tipsarevic (15) – The bespectacled Serbian reached the ATP World Tour finals, but his form has been errant since winning his first tournament of the year on the Chennai hard court. That was meagre fare and his subsequent clay campaign has hardly been befitting of a world number 14 – he’s been KO’d in the first round in two of his last three visits.
Milos Raonic (17) – The Canadian has never been at his most comfortable on grass – the hard court is his preserve – and he’s won three successive matches in a tournament on the surface just once in his entire career. Raonic is currently the world number 15, but seems to be enduring his worst start to the grass season for some time, lasting just a single match at Halle and Eastbourne.
Gilles Simon (19) – The third round has been Simon’s kryptonite at the All England Club, with all but one of his Wimbledons ending at that stage. Whilst he’s a reasonably reliable punting proposition when playing lower ranked players he’s fragile once faced with top 30 ranked foes, having been scalped by the likes of Xavier Malisse, Fabio Fognini and Michael Llodra in lawn tournaments in the past.
Ladies
Sara Errani (5) – Sara Errani put in another top drawer showing on the clay when reaching the French Open, but the orange stuff is her natural domain. Her all-round game can make up for a tame serve on that slower surface, but on the grass there will be no hiding place against half decent returners.
Petra Kvitova (8) – As 2011’s Wimbledon queen, less thorough punters might be forgiven for adding Czech lawn-lover Kvitova to their coupon without a second glance, but she’s been dogged by inconsistency this term, falling to Jamie Hampton and Laura Robson in the two completed Grand Slams. A defeat against world number 51 Yanina Wickmayer at Eastbourne in her first grass tournament of the season confirmed she’s still battling the unforced-error demons and she’s one who could be set for another shock exit.
