Mourinho poised to sell Ba after just five months at Chelsea

Improving Chelsea’s strike force was always going to be Jose Mourinho’s number one priority when he returned to Stamford Bridge – although getting rid of Demba Ba is not how many people thought he’d start.

Fernando Torres always looked like the most likely casualty of Mourinho’s return (and there is still every reason to think he’ll be leaving) but, according to the Sunday Mirror, Ba is also poised to be booted unceremoniously out of west London.

The red top reckons Chelsea will be happy to make a decent profit on the £7million they spent on him in January, with Liverpool amongst the teams who are keen to nab him.

However, while Ba and Torres look set to leave, there are plenty of strikers who could be about to arrive.

Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle is thought to interest Mourinho, while Edinson Cavani, Stevan Jovetic and Hulk are also on the Portuguese’s radar.

Wayne Rooney will also become a target if David Moyes is unable to convince the striker to stay at Old Trafford, while Romelu Lukaku – whose loan deal at West Brom has come to an end – will also be given a chance up top.

It all sounds very encouraging for Chelsea in the striking department but, back up the field, things aren’t quite as rosy for Blues’ fans.

Twitter has been abuzz about the possibility that fan favourites David Luiz and (somewhat unbelievably) Juan Mata are available for sale.

The Sunday Times is reporting that Mourinho will “listen to offers” for the two players although, in the case of Mata, they will surely only be listened to before being swiftly dismissed.
