Dortmund signings can ensure Bundesliga is not new SPL yet

Bayern Munich’s treble last season, the fact that they have acquired the manager widely regarded to be the best in the world and signed perhaps the chief attacking threat of their main title rivals has unsurprisingly led to them being regarded as shoo-ins for the Bundesliga crown in the upcoming campaign.

It is 1/6 that Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga and in some instances it is believed that the title race will be so one-sided this season that the German top-flight has become the new SPL.

Dortmund may have sold Mario Gotze, but their success in maintaining the services of star striker Robert Lewandowski for at least one more season is a massive plus, while Mats Hummels, Sven Bender, Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan seem likely to stay at this point.

But it is the captures of attacking duo Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that brings the most hope that Dortmund can remain competitive with Bayern. It is 11/2 that Dortmund win the Bundesliga.

Mkhitaryan is something of a goal-scoring phenomenon from midfield, netting 25 times last season at Shakhtar and on his Dortmund debut in a friendly with Basel.

He could easily play off Lewandowski centrally, which would allow Marco Reus to occupy one flank and Aubameyang to challenge for the other spot with Jakub Blaszczykowski

Playing off the left last season for Saint Etienne, Aubameyang’s conversion rate remained greater than a goal every two games, while he also provided nine assists.

His raw pace and directness will make him a threat to any defence, although technically he is not the trickiest of wide players.

Aside from the big two, few others are given a realistic chance in the Bundesliga title betting, with Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke coming next at 33/1.
