Wolves to savage Hull on their way to Challenge Cup glory

| 26.07.2013

In pursuit of their fourth Wembley final in five years, cup specialists Warrington should have no problem disposing of an out-of-sorts Hull side in their cup semi-final this weekend.

The Wire have won their last three Challenge Cup semis by scores of 39-26, 54-12 and 39-28 and given that their two narrowest margins of victory came against the competition’s most successful ever club,  Wigan, and this tie is against a side that have lost their last five games – Ladbrokes’ price of 5/6 with a -10.0 handicap looks appealing.

Warrington are in a rich vein of form, and although the last time they tasted defeat was against the Black and Whites, they were without key men Brett Hodgson and skipper Adrian Morley that day. There are no such absentee worries on this occasion.

Hodgson was particularity impressive as Tony Smith’s men bulldozed past Super League leaders Huddersfield 44- 24 in the quarters, contributing 12 points against his former club.

Indeed, the Giants found themselves out of the contest before it had even began with Paul Wood, Trent Waterhouse and Mickey Higham all crossing the whitewash within the first 20 minutes. Another electric start is perfectly feasible and Warrington are 2/5 to reach ten points first.

The more far-sighted supporter may want to go one game further and look straight to the final as Warrington’s price to lift the cup will only shorten with victory against Hull, subsequently a 6/4 price for them to triumph could be a shrewd bit of foresight.

Further to this, nobody loves the game’s oldest club competition more than evergreen veteran Lee Briers. The 35-year-old put speculation surrounding his future to bed this week by penning a new deal. Who would put it past him to guide The Wire to Wembley and onto his second consecutive Lance Todd Trophy.
