Petrolul v Swansea: Swans to keep clean sheet as they soar through

Published:

Swansea are all but guaranteed safe passage to the group stages of the Europa League courtesy of their 5-1 first-leg rout of Romania’s Petrolul Ploiesti.

However, despite the Premier League outfit’s dominance over their rivals at the Liberty Stadium, Michael Laudrup’s side are a relatively-long 5/4 to secure the win away from home.

Petrolul, despite home advantage, are priced as the 11/5 outsiders, while the draw can be backed at odds of 12/5.

With Swansea already having one foot in the next phase of the competition, Laudrup could be tempted to rest some of his bigger names ahead of Sunday’s trip to West Brom prompting some to look for value away from the win-draw-win market.

One such option could be to back the Swans to keep a clean sheet at the Ilie Oană Stadium at 11/5.

The Welsh side have conceded just one goal in the competition so far and that was the stunner smashed by Gheorghe Grozav in the dying minutes of the first leg.

Swansea fans could also be tempted to get behind new midfield signing Alejandro Pozuelo who is likely to be given a start after impressing from the bench in the first leg, where he rounded off the Swans scoring.

The attack-minded Spaniard – who arrived from Real Betis this summer – now has two Europa League goals to his name and can be backed to score last – as he did against both Malmo and Petrolul – at an enticing price of 11/1.

The same odds are available for the 21-year-old to open the scoring, while 7/2 says he will find the back of the net at anytime during the 90 minutes.

With the hard work already done, Swansea are likely to take it relatively easy in this second-leg tie, with one eye on the weekend’s domestic fixture.

However, those of the belief that Laudrup will use the match to gee his squad up after two league defeats can back a repeat of the 5-1 scoreline from the first leg at 100/1.
