Rafa ready for New York with Spaniard now 11/4 for US Open

| 20.08.2013

Rafael Nadal’s incredible resurgence shows no sign of abating with the Spaniard now backed into 11/4 to claim a second career US Open title following his Masters triumph in Cincinnati.

Nadal remains unbeaten on hardcourts this year. That most recent success against John Isner took his record to 15-0 on the surface, propelling him back to the world number two spot in the process.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround for a player who some doubted would ever reach the peaks that saw him claim 11 Grand Slam titles prior to 2013.

Persistent knee problems led to a spate of tournament withdrawals towards the end of last year, including Nadal’s absence from Flushing Meadows.

However, despite an unexpected first round exit at Wimbledon, Rafa’s comeback has been near flawless.

Nine titles in total this season are testament to the mental toughness of a player who many were writing off after he pulled out of the latest edition of the Australian Open.

Nadal subsequently dropped out of the world’s top four for the first time in eight years but his performances since returning to action have firmly silenced any doubters.

And it’s his most recent victories that have really caught the eye in the lead-up to the final major of the year.

Defeating rival Novak Djokovic en-route to taking the spoils in Montreal further reinforced the feeling amongst the tennis world that Nadal could be the one to beat in New York.

Following that up with back-to-back hard court titles for the first time in his career in Ohio has only served to increase expectations.

The man from Manacor has been slashed from 9/2 to emerge triumphant in New York with Djokovic still the 15/8 favourite.

Andy Murray isn’t far behind the Serbian at 9/4 with Ladbrokes offering money back on all losing outright bets, up to £/€25, if last year’s winner claims successive titles.
