West Brom close in on vital winger to provide pace on flanks

Published:

When looking for a winger with Premier League experience that is surplus to requirements at another club, there is arguably nobody that fits the criteria better than Scott Sinclair.

Therefore, it is no surprise that he has generated interest from a few mid-table clubs, but it seems that West Brom have beaten Southampton to his signing and he could even join in time to face Everton in their next Premier League fixture.

West Brom are 9/2 to win at Everton, but the capture of Sinclair could give their chances of leaving with three points a major boost, given the lack of obvious pace they lack in the wide areas.

This is the big problem that the Baggies have encountered from the Peter Odemwingie saga, while allowing Jerome Thomas to join Crystal Palace also reduces their options out wide.

Sinclair will provide a far more direct option than any other player Steve Clarke can call upon and should easily enhance the number of chances they create from the wide areas.

No obvious winger was picked in West Brom’s opener with Southampton and Clarke also opted to start with two strikers, which was not a tactic he used too often in their efforts last season, when the club never dropped out of the top half of the table.

Sinclair would technically make it easier to return to a 4-3-3 formation, which would make sense given the lack of wingers within the squad, and he could end up as the chief creator for the goals that Nicolas Anelka was brought in to score.

It would seem that Sinclair would initially arrive at the Hawthorns on a season-long loan deal with the option of making the transfer permanent at the end of the campaign.
