Bale more likely to win Ballon d’Or than finish top scorer

| 02.09.2013

Gareth Bale has a lot to live up to at Real Madrid and ensuring that he managed enough keepie-uppies to impress the crowd at his unveiling is just the first challenge the 24-year-old will have to overcome.

After he scored 21 times in the Premier League last season at Tottenham Hotspur, Bale will be keen to better that total in La Liga this campaign.

However the 24-year-old is unlikely to topple either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo from the top of the Pichichi charts especially after giving them a three-game headstart, and Bale is 100/1 to be the top scorer in La Liga.

A better bet is to back the Welshman to score over 14.5 league goals at 11/10, a total he will easily surpass if he maintains the form he showed in the second half of last season.

At Real Madrid Bale now has a chance to be in the running for the Ballon d’Or should he impress on a higher stage than the Europa League spot he was offered at Spurs.

His one campaign in the Champions League with Spurs marked him out as one of the most exciting young players in Europe, and Bale could enjoy the biggest platform in club football again at Madrid.

Bale is 25/1 to be named the world’s best footballer in 2014.

Despite pinching Ronaldo’s status as the world’s most expensive player, Bale is unlikely to outscore his hero at Madrid next season, with the Portuguese a heavy 1/10 favourite to score more La Liga goals this season.

However one man Bale might outdo is Karim Benzema, and the 24-year-old can be backed at 5/4 to score more La Liga goals for Real Madrid this term.

Although Benzema has hit the ground running in the league this season, scoring twice in three games, his previous totals at the Bernabeu of eight, 15, 21 and 11 are all within Bale’s reach.
