Chelsea lining up Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz in January
Without a single Premier League goal between his three recognised strikers from their first seven games, it appears Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already identified a solution, in the form of Galatasaray forward Burak Yilmaz.
Chelsea fans’ faces must literally be as blue as their shirts as they are subjected to witnessing their own player firing in Premier League goals for another club yet again this season.
But, with no option to recall Romelu Lukaku from Everton for the remainder of the season, it seems Mourinho will be forced into asking Roman Abramovich for another large cheque to help remedy the situation.
Astonishingly, none of £50m man Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o or Demba Ba have found the opposition net in the league thus far, and the rumour is Galatasaray’s prolific front man Yilmaz is Mourinho’s prime suspect for a January switch.
Yilmaz scored 32 times in 39 appearances for the Turkish champions last season and made the headlines for his Champions League exploits, where he plundered eight goals in helping Galatasaray into the last eight.
Any potential deal for Chelsea procuring the 28-year-old’s services has been given extra credence by comments from Galatasaray chairman Unal Aysal, who appears keen to cash in on one of his costliest assets.
When asked if he would allow Yilmaz to leave for Stamford Bridge, he said: “If he wants to go and Chelsea are interested then of course, why not? I favour Turkish players going to Europe to play in European leagues.”
A potential fee has not been revealed as yet, but where Chelsea are concerned, it’s difficult to imagine anything other than a hefty asking price.
Ironically, this news has surfaced just as Torres has publicly admitted he must score more goals to justify his club record fee. Really Fernando?
