Gillingham to upset the applecart in League One treble

| 16.10.2013

The managerial merry-go-round turns once more, with 17th-placed Gillingham being the latest club to make a change. And with this in mind, we’ve put together an enticing League One accumulator paying just under £90 from a £10 stake.

Gillingham to beat Preston @ 19/10

Gillingham’s shock sacking of manager Martin Allen last week certainly sent shockwaves through the division, following an indifferent start to the season. Despite this, the appointment of the former England caretaker manager Peter Taylor should see an instant upturn in form, beginning with their home game against Preston.

The well travelled manager spent a solitary season at the Priestfield Stadium back in the 1999/2000 campaign when Taylor lead the Gills to the Division One play-off final.

This season, however, the hosts have recorded a solitary win, two draws and two defeats at home so far. But with the players seemingly in a new mindset and with the knowledge that it was the home side who took all three points the last time Preston made the trip to Kent, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that it’ll be Taylor’s men who secure all three points at the full time whistle on Saturday at odds of 19/10.

Leyton Orient to beat Tranmere @ evens

The Leyton Orient juggernaut keeps gathering momentum following the club’s best start to a season in their history, and Russell Slade’s men still undefeated this campaign.

Added to The O’s good start is the woeful form Tranmere find themselves in at present, having won just two of their 11 League fixtures this season. Ronnie Moore’s charges have lost three and drawn two of their five games at PrentonPark.

A 2-0 defeat at the hands of Shrewsbury last week sees the Merseyside club languishing inside the relegation zone with just eight points from their aforementioned league games. With evens available for Orient to record a 10th win of the season, this looks to be a shrewd selection.

Peterborough to beat Shrewsbury @ 1/2

Like Leyton Orient, Peterborough have been on a sensational run of form in the early stages of the season following their relegation from the Championship last term.

With nine wins, one draw and just a single defeat this campaign, Darren Ferguson’s men take on a Shrewsbury side that head to London Road off the back of a morale-boosting win against Tranmere last time out.

Ominously though for mid-table Shrewsbury, they are yet to win on their travels with three draws and two defeats. That winless record looks set to continue against the division’s top scorers. At 1/2, The Posh look set to extend their winning streak in the league.
